than we went to a cave
in the evening we went to the mexican place.
the nice guy sold his company 4 years ago and bought 2 houses in pai. since than he never worked a day.
next day - next trip! looks like hard work - it is. than again: they burn and cut down all the forest, brought in cows and all. now the microclimate in the valley changed.
many of the hill tribes round pai originally fled from china, tibet, laos and/or burma. next to pai is a chinese village founded by the chinese kuomintang soldiers who crossed over to thailand after the fall of china to the communists (the famed chiang kiang-shek run of to taiwan).
Lots of lisu, lahu and karen in other villages the biggest group are by far the thai yai from the shan state.
inside pai you have a lot of thai's (why is that??), thai-chinese and some thai-muslims (growing) as well as foreign residents.
this one stands (still?) for the countless burned down trees
tofu!
at the chinese temple - perfect spot for a house!
